The Kale 12 step program and other confessions

Our bunny is addicted to Kale. It is our fault. We provided the Kale, introduced it to him. We continue to buy it for him even though he goes through a bushel a week now.

He just loves it so much. And look at that face…how could we not.
Aside from his obvious love of Kale bunny is doing well. He weighs in at about 6 pounds now and is about 16 weeks…or 4 months old. Husband did some digging and found that they get to about full grown around 6 months or so…so we are thinking unless he goes crazy he won’t get too much bigger. He will, however, get fatter. This means, at least I hope, that dispite what my other rabbit friend says, he will not grow into his wonderful ears, but instead…his ears will remain the fabulous length they are!!
For this I could not be happier.

We’ve had some…challenges with litter training. Thankfully, he will mostly go in the bathroom but for some reason still chooses the bathmat over the litter box sometimes. It’s odd. We are trying positive reinforcement with him now. Giving treats when we see him use the litter box. Still it’s always a fun little surprise after a big plate of Kale to go into the bathroom. Did he use the litter box? Or is it a mine field….:0

When you think he’s chewed his last – insert cord here – you find another one…our fault again…we have a child who leaves things hanging around, and it only takes two seconds for his teeth to get at something. I can’t tell you the amount of chargers, headphones and the like we had to replace.

We haven’t clipped his nails yet. I know I know. I am thinking we will have to take him to the vet. I just can’t seem to get him comfortable around me. It’s like he knows what I want to do…although I just can’t imagine a vet being any less traumatic…but it needs to be done! I suck a cutting Cody’s nails so I don’t why I thought I could do this! Maybe the vet will have a technique.

Okay I end with this:

My worst bunny confession to date: here is is…a few months ago, when he was still new, I was home with a migraine and petting bunny. Both of us just relaxing. It was so quiet and nice. All of a sudden, bun bun started making this weird sound. I thought he was having trouble breathing or something so I picked up him and held him toward me (the exact WRONG way to hold a bunny) thus freaking him out, sending him scurrying under the couch for refuge. I looked up the sound on YouTube and yep totally normally. It’s called honking. And it is what your bunny does when they are relaxed. I screwed up and freaked him out when he was relaxed! :0 he hasn’t made that sound since. I am hoping someday, he will. I am hoping I haven’t scared him forever. So there is my darkest bunny secret…out for the world to know.

If you ever hear your bunny do this – bunny honking – DO NOT PICK THEM UP AND ASK THEM IF THEY ARE DYING!!!
